My Students

My students come to school everyday wanting to learn. They are excited and curious about the world and how they can contribute to our classroom culture. I encourage my students to find their strengths and use them to make the most difference and to also acknowledge their weakness and work hard to grow and improve.

The boys and girls come from various ethnic backgrounds and various family situations, but that is not who they are.

A check box does not define them. We are a class composed of choir members, soccer players, gymnasts, musicians, artists, readers, chefs, jokesters, and even zombie hunters!

My Project

There is a neurological pathway that connects your body's movement and balance to your cognitive function. Movement while learning can actually improve retention and performance. A stability ball (also known as a balance ball or yoga ball) chair will offer not only typically developing students the benefits of movement while learning, but is especially important for those students who enter the classroom every year with a diagnosis of ADHD (attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), Autism, or Sensory Processing Disorder.

In 2003, a study published by the American Journal of Occupational Therapy concluded that students using ball chairs were able to sit still, focus, and write words more clearly.
