My students need wiggle cushions, cafe tables, stools and ottomans to accommodate their learning styles and our grouping situations, just like real life.
Fourth grade students are sweet, creative, hard working and thoughtful. They have a lot of energy and need ample opportunities for movement while they study independently or work in small collaborative groups. Providing different seating arrangements, settings and material textures works well for many students. Sometimes a student prefers to work solo to help process thoughts and challenging concepts.
The chairs and table I'm requesting allow the students varied seating opportunities to complete tasks/assignments in a manner that matches their social need.
My Project
My classroom will allow and insist students to choose a place where they will work more comfortably. The goal is to be the most productive while in class. I have chosen several seating options that will provide students these varied seating options.
The options vary from a low spot on the the ground, using traditional or not so traditional chairs at a table to standing at a cafe table.
Students will use the wiggle cushions, cafe tables, stools and ottomans instead of the traditional hard wood or plastic chairs. We will have more successful students who feel understood, cared for and valued.
