My students are 3rd graders in an area of mixed socioeconomic status in Northern California. They are hard workers and love to learn. Many students come from very supportive homes, but some do not, and for those students being at school is the highlight of their day!
I strive to keep my classroom engaging, fun, and full of activity.
I have the kids move around as often as possible, but even with frequent movement, sitting in a regular chair for long periods of time can be hard on 8 and 9-year-olds.
Some students have been diagnosed with things like ADD and ADHD as well as some have learning disabilities. For these kids especially, sitting still all day can be difficult.
Standing desks, wobble chairs, and bouncy bands will change the way kids learn! Very few children, and not even most adults are able sit still for long periods of time and stay focused. Giving them ways to learn that are flexible can really help keep them more focused on learning!
Having two standing desk options in my classroom will allow kids that don't sit well to have the choice to stand for the day, or even for part of the day.
Wobble seats give another option for kids to be able to wiggle and learn without the safety concern of them falling out of a traditional chair. Bouncy bands give kids a chance to bounce their feet and allows many kids an increased ability to focus.
