I teach first grade students in a high poverty school that uses inquiry based learning throughout our school day. My school has a 40% mobility rate meaning that almost half of my class that starts the year with me will move and be replaced by a whole new set of students by the end of the school year.
My students are hungry for knowledge and are eager to learn.
They are active, smart, and funny kids with a passion for learning and having fun. I want to give my students the opportunity to be creative, think critically, collaborate, communicate, and have a sense of community while learning and utilizing the arts. I also want to allow my students to express themselves and demonstrate their knowledge.
My Project
My students crave structure and routine. This year, I have been using flexible seating in my classroom to give my students the opportunity to have choices in their learning. This has been wonderful and we would love to add another surf lap desk into our collection of alternative seating choices.
We meet on the carpet for our morning meeting each day and could use some SitSpots to give my students a better idea of where to sit.
We also could use some new white board and flip chart markers to show our learning on our classroom easel. We have given our current set of markers a lot of love and need to replace them. These items will help my students be successful lifelong learners.
