My students are amazing kiddos! I am privileged to teach these bright and energetic students. We are a Title 1 school, which means free breakfast and lunch for everyone. We have a diverse population and many different learning styles. My kiddos need help channeling their energy. Flexible seating options will help with this. We currently have one rolling chair and one stool. They love being able to roll around a little, sit up high, and basically feel like they had choices in how they are learning. Information seems to stick better when they sit in one of the two options above. I want to give that to all of my students!
Having flexible seating options will help my students focus on the learning. They brainstormed this idea together and they believe that they can pay better attention if they can choose what they sit on. I agree! Many of the concerns we have in class is the constant need to move, wiggle, stretch, etc. It may even encourage those that tire easily, and those that lack motivation to do better. Giving choices and showing that learning is valued can lead to a very positive classroom environment. It also encourages, instead of discourages little wiggles and physical movement. I am excite to support their ideas!
