My Students

For many of my low income students, my classroom is their first school experience. While we are a play and experience based program, they are surrounded by new materials, processes, people, smells, textures, sounds and restrictions. My ultimate goal is a strong sense of confidence.

My students are from low income families who are not always able to provide the 'things' and experiences their children need to become successful.

Our school is actually a satellite location from the Early Childhood Center. We like our smaller numbers but have the added challenge of insuring that we have the materials and environment to meet our preschoolers needs.

My Project

Because my preschoolers are surrounded by so many new stimuli, their sensory issues can sometimes be overwhelming. The Yogibo bean bag cushion will provide us with a perfect place for them to center themselves. The microfiber beads in the cushion will allow them to sink inside and be surrounded by 'safety.' The pressure they will have encircling them will allow their senses to be centered and thereby be a calming force.

This school year brings a bevy of energetic, excited and hands on little boys to my classroom.

I foresee the Yogibo being used multiple times during the day. I sincerely feel that it will become an island of refuge in our room.
