Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Did you ever invite your young students to sing and dance with you, but you all end up strutting like robots because the music kept bouncing?
I teach in a high poverty public school in Virginia where a majority of the students get free breakfast and lunch.
My big class is a mix of African-Americans, Hispanics, and an Asian. Of the 23 students, five are performing well, ten average, and eight are academically low mainly because of lack of formal education and language barrier. One common characteristic of my students is they love to sing and dance with me. There is not a day when they don't ask me to sing the "Bear Song", the "Number Songs", the "Letter Songs" and my other newly found songs.
My Project
Having a modern radio will meet the needs of my musical, auditory, and kinesthetic learners. It hurts me when they complain about my defective CD player because they deserve only the best. Most of the time, we just bring out the best in our worst learning experiences when we strut like robots and laugh about what we are doing every time the music bounces. My wish is for them to have a meaningful learning kindergarten experience through my singing and dancing teaching technique.
This boombox will help enrich my lessons because my music and sounds will not only be confined to the CDs that I currently have but my options will be extended because I can get more sounds from other sources and use various devices like my phone, my USB, and an mp3 player to provide the music that my students need.

I introduce, teach, and reinforce my lessons in all subjects through songs. This equipment will be a helpful tool as I integrate my lessons in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies, especially when I do my lessons outdoors. This project will sustain the interest of my kids throughout the day. Finally, it will eliminate possible failing for the struggling kids.
