We have a good mix of boys and girls from varying household sizes. Some are only children, while others have many brothers and sisters. Some have the responsibility of being the oldest child in their family, while others are lucky to be the baby of the family. We have students from traditional families, blended families, and multi-generational families, where they live with grandparents. Our school consists of students that are about 95% Caucasian, and about 30% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. We have teachers at all different stages of their careers (from first-year teachers to ready to retire). We focus on STEM, music, art, and are a Chinese dual-immersion school. On our most recent end of level tests, our school ranked in the top three schools in our district out of about twenty-five elementary schools in both English language arts and math.
My Project
The Heidi Songs DVD's will allow me to identify which words my students are struggling with and focus on just those songs. Each song has an animated background and a catchy tune to help my students learn these important words.
I will use the Teach Me Sight Words lessons to individualize my students' learning by assigning each student only the lessons they need.
Each lesson contains an audio lesson created by a licensed teacher and an 8 page booklet that helps target their learning. They will learn how to read and spell their sight words by tracing the letters, filling in the missing letters, finding the word among other words and reading it in a sentence.
