My students need the sing and spell DVD collection. Only a few of these songs can be found on You tube. The DVD's sing songs to teach the students how to spell sight words, and letters
My class serves a small group of students with a range of disabilities, including autism, cerebral palsy, and developmental delays. The age range of my children is from kindergarten to 5th grade. The typical students in my class are non-verbal as well as non-readers. The cognitive level of my children is around preschool. I teach in multi-handicapped located in a very rural town of Mississippi. My students are mostly non-verbal. When they do speak it is usually just one word.
My Project
My students are nonverbal autistic. These type of students learn best through songs and visualization. These DVDs consists of songs which will teach the students letter sounds, colors, shapes, numbers and even spelling sight words.
The DVDs would also help the ones that do speak by providing them with a fun way to learn the information.
We have discovered a few of the sight word songs on YouTube and the students love them and remember them very well. The whole set of sight words would be beneficial for all my students. Music helps the students learn and retain the information.
