Simultaneous Science Through Unlimited Use E-Books!
My students need unlimited use e-books about science topics to support their assigned curriculum and to offer access to every student researching these topics.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember seeing another student with a book that you needed for an assignment and realizing that you might not get it in time? Researching, reviewing, or reading--unlimited use e-books make it possible for all with simultaneous access for all students and teachers. Yay!
Our students are wonderfully eager learners from a variety of backgrounds.
We have a large special education population which is served in self-contained classrooms, resource classes, and co-teaching partnerships. Our city is "next door" to a large military base, and we have many children of American service men and women. Students come to school by walking, car, and bus.
Our parent teacher organization is enjoying new growth, and our parents offer strong support to our teachers and students. We enjoy the assistance of volunteers in classrooms and our media center.
My Project
The Common Core Curriculum provides specific guidelines to what our students are studying. The consistency of benchmarks tied to specific timelines in students' studies means that many teachers and students require use of the same materials at the same time. When a great book is a valuable resource, it is usually impossible to provide a copy for every teacher and child to use at the same time. The acquisition of e-books that provide unlimited use throughout our school will allow all students and teachers needing that resource to use it at the same time. Teachers will have the choice of allowing differentiation by assigning specific portions of these e-books to certain students or presenting the content to all students simultaneously on the SmartBoards in their classrooms.
This project includes e-books on science topics studied at every grade level in our school. It will reach every student in the school for years to come!
What an impact these e-books will have in our classrooms!
Teachers will no longer have to scramble to rotate a single book among their grade levels; students will not feel defeated because the only copy of a book has already been checked out from the media center. Teachers can use these materials with all students or selected groups, and our special ed children will have access to everything that the traditional students use. "Life is not fair," but this gift will make it much fairer!
