Videos are how students investigate these days. Last year students received over-the-ear-headphones by DonorsChoose.og. Students were able to create and listen to their created videos. They were also able to watch youtube videos to increase their understanding of content.
My kids are amazing.
We are in a low socioeconomic (SES) community but they are thirsty for knowledge. Their families see a future for their children and want them to do well in school. This is often not the case in low SES areas. Since we are a consolidated school district, some of my kids ride a bus 45 min to school each day and then back home again which makes for a long day, but they do it with a smile. Our school is a 5, 6, 7 grade middle school where teachers embrace the middle school mindset and strive to create engaging lessons for kids to reach them at the place they are and make an impression on them. Students love to be a part of the sporting teams we have here for them. They love technology and love integrating it into each and every class they go to (even if they are just listening to music).
My Project
The students use the headphones that they got last year all the time, but the storage is an issue. We want our supplies to last for years. I was storing them together but cords were getting tangled. I don't have the space to leave them out. Students expressed the desire for cases to preserve the headphones. Students will be able to access neat headphones whenever they need. With the new add-on from Google that reads ALL text to students they will be using them even more now.
Technology is changing the way we teach.
Students have been using technology most of their lives and now they are using it as a tool to learn. As a teacher I need to be equipped with all accessories and necessities to encourage and promote this self-driven 21st century learning. I cannot wait to see what the kids have in store for me this year.
