My students need science magazines for current national events that highlight science as solutions to real world issues. We also need a memory card for our class cameras.

My Students

The push in current education is for students to be able to connect learned skills to real world situations. Studies show that students know isolated skills but do not know how to apply the skills they know in authentic settings.

My students are 5th graders who have natural curiosity and love for science type topics.

Their families in our district were able to choose our school for their children because of our science rich environments. They are very diverse in cultural background, race, gender and financial status. Even though we are in an elementary school setting, we have unique outdoor classrooms, a student kitchen and a science lab.

My Project

Current nonfiction reading material is needed for our students to keep up with trends in science, see how science is related to discoveries and to problems that face us as a nation, country and planet. Unfortunately, the current news and media they may be exposed to on the radio and television aren't geared to children. The Science News magazines requested is written on their interest level and their reading level. The students will be exposed to topics they wouldn't commonly see as science related.

Our students are the future problem solvers.

They will be solvers of problems that don't even exist today. As teachers and community investors we must do all we can to keep our children "in the loop" with current events to keep their minds stimulated and their curiosity alert! The Science News Magazines will do just that!!!
