"Hey, Google how do I solve fractions?" I don't remember the last time I used a book to look something up, do you? I either ask someone or ask Google/Siri. This is how we learn and how we quench the thirst of curiosity. In our classroom we need more technology for our chromebooks for research.
My kids are amazing.
We are in a low socioeconomic (ses) community but they are thirsty for knowledge. Their families see a future for their children and want them to do well in school. This is often not the case in low ses areas. Since we are a consolidated school district some of my kids ride a bus 45 min to school each day and then back home again which makes for a long day but they do it with a smile. Our school is a 5, 6, 7 grade middle school where teachers embrace the middle school mindset and strive to create engaging lessons for kids to reach them at the place they are and make an impression on them. Students love to be a part of the sporting teams we have here for them. They love technology and love integrating it into each and every class they go to (even if they are just listening to music)
My Project
My students are now using Chromebooks daily. They are participating in their education by creating their curriculum. Students need a camera to record me and their activities to reflect and create projects. Students also need mice for better research and scrolling to more efficiently use Chromebooks for research and test taking.
The donations for these tech items will make my classroom a more collaborative environment.
21st Century research by says that technology integration is a key feature to collaborative learning environments. For my students, it will change their view of a education and as cheesy as that sounds, I believe it.
