My Students
Do you remember what it was like shopping for school materials at the beginning of the school year? The school provided a list of the necessary supplies for each student off to the store you and your family went.
I teach language arts to an eager group of third graders.
Being that I only teach the language arts component I see approximately 55 students daily. Many of the students receive free and reduced lunch. Most parents are either not working due to the loss of jobs, or working two jobs to make ends meet. Over seventy percent of the population are English Language Learners and the students speak more English than the parents. Due to the socio-ecomonic status of the families, we are a title one school. In spite of the difficult challenges they face outside of school, the students want to learn.
My Project
With there being so many budget cuts in education, the money just is not present. At my district alone we are staffed at 93%! I was allocated $370 for the entire school year for my students. Clearly, that is not sufficient. I am requesting copy paper, pencils, highlighters, pens, white out, and 10 language arts resources so that I can effectively teach them the curriculum. There are specific teaching strategies that are hands-on (such as foldables, mobiles, differentiated instruction in small groups.) that will allow me to ensure the students are making strides within their academics. They cannot be successful in life if they cannot read. If I cannot effectively teach them, I am setting them up to fail. However, how can I effectively teach them if I do not have the simple instructional tools readily available?
You can help me make a difference in my students lives.
I am just simply asking for the basics paper, pencils, highlighters, 3-ring binders with dividers, pens, whiteout, and 10 language arts resources. I strive to give my students the best education possible, but I cannot do it on my own because I am not financially capable of obtaining all of the resources necessary. Please consider helping me and my students have the tools to be successful in life.
