I wanted to do something different this year, something that would make a difference in my students’ lives and others. I took the first week of school to teach kindness. I presented the idea of becoming a member of the Kind Kids Club, where they would complete big and small missions of kindness throughout the year. That is where it all started, and throughout the year we have been known as Mrs. Simon's Kind Kids Club.
My Kind Kids Club has participated in more than 100 small acts of kindness such as using their manners, writing kind notes to previous teachers, holding the door open for others, and teaching younger students how to use iPads.
Each student also came up with a big mission.
The Kind Kids Club is completely driven by these students and what they feel will help others. Some of these missions include donating over $1,000 in Home Depot gift cards to people affected by Hurricane Irma, donating over 700 items to an orphanage in Ukraine, donating to our local SPCA, and collecting stuffed animals for our local fire departments to distribute on calls. These kids have made such an impact on so many!
My Project
These balance chairs will help with concentration, stimulation, and sensory needs. My 7 and 8 year olds need to move, bounce, wiggle, and wobble while they are learning to maximize production! These chairs will help my students stay focused and increase productivity because flexible seating is a privilege that they need to work hard to keep. My plan is to put these at my small group table and at my two student computers. Students will be able to move these flexible seating options around when not in use in those two areas. Thank you for your consideration when donating to this special project!
