My Students
I am an ELD kindergarten teacher at a Title I school in Mesa, Arizona. I have 25 wonderful students that deserve nothing but the best. 90% of our students are on free or reduced lunch which means their family income falls below the poverty line. The students have a lot of things stacked against them, but are always ready to learn when they come to school.
Although the students come from poverty, we are a school of innovation so all students have an iPad that they use daily.
This helps to prepare the students for their future. The students use the tablets to create things like iBooks, explore content on the internet and interact with students across the globe.
My Project
Silence is golden... especially when 25 students are using iPads. The kindergarten students at Eisenhower Center for Innovation each have an iPad that they can use in class, but without headphones it can become a very loud and distracting tool. The students would benefit from having their own set of headphones to utilize their iPads to the fullest potential without being distracted by those around them. During testing season the headphones are removed from our classroom to be shared by 2nd - 6th grade students which means the students use of iPads in kindergarten decreases. They become distracted easily when someone next to them is working on a fun but noisy app or video. The headphones will help they stay focused and continue their growth using technology in the classroom.
