Approximately 75% of the students at our school receive free or reduced-price lunch, and we have a high number of military families. There is an amazing group of hard working young adults in my class. They strive every day to do their best and succeed. Their goals and dreams are to achieve a high school diploma and go to college.
These students take any obstacle in their path head-on and don't let it slow them down.
These students overcome so many different setbacks during their time in school.
My Project
My students consists of a diverse group of future leaders who all come from a variety of backgrounds including homelessness, poverty and military families. They all have one goal in common and that is to attend college after graduation. And for most of my students, they will be the first to attend college from their families, so it is a huge milestone. Graduation is getting closer each day and this amazing group of students are working hard to make sure they are ready. They have the opportunity to attend a signing day event which will showcase how hard they have worked to achieve their goals and dreams. I, with the help of reach higher, wants to help them make this day as special as possible. I am requesting backpacks, portable battery chargers, earbuds, pens, notebook portfolios and journals to provide to these students on the day of their college signing event. These items will help to make these students transition into a whole new world much easier. They have done their best and overcome so many obstacles, it is important to make sure they are stepping out on their own with their best foot forward. These students are so amazing and I want them to know how proud we all are of their achievements, as we are not only their to teach them the curriculum, but how to be prepared and successful in life. These materials will make a huge impact for these students when they arrive at college. Most of these students are going to school on scholarships and grants due to having limited financial resources, so they will have limited access to materials such as these.
