"America Street" and other short story anthologies.
I teach wonderful students of all levels and abilities, from college-driven honors students to students with special education needs. One of my biggest goals for every single one of my students is to place reading material into their hands that will excite, inspire, and encourage them.
My Project
With the current pandemic, it is sometimes easier and more reasonable for us to teach literary analysis and appreciation for excellent writing through works that are not always full-length novels. I personally love teaching short stories. A fantastic short story will feel relevant and engaging to students. It will be something memorable, thought-provoking and inspiring. I am on the search for truly fabulous short stories to teach with my students, and there are not as many as I would wish available on the public domain.
A class set of "America Street" - a beautiful short story anthology - will be ideal for achieving these goals.
I have also requested a couple copies of other short story anthologies - one for me and for students - to read through and use as I see fit with students who are learning online or in class. Each anthology I have requested I carefully chose after reading reviews. I made sure that the stories were age appropriate as well as represented a diverse sampling of authors.
