Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Imagine a place filled with learning materials that are fun and exuberant, and every day spent there magically makes you smarter, more confident, and prepared for any academic challenges ahead. I teach 20 second graders in a high poverty school that is located in a school district that is facing severe budget cuts. Many of my students are English learners. My students need high interest, engaging activities to improve reading fluency.
The major obstacle that my students are facing is that their reading fluency greatly affects their academic success.
They need the opportunity to practice reading and applying vocabulary that would foster learning. My students need materials that are challenging and fun as well as effective to improve their reading skills. My goal for my students is to become excited about reading skills while preparing for their first state mandated test. At the end of the second grade, every student must take Language Art test which is packed with reading passages and questions. I would like to prepare my students for the format of this test in the most interactive and engaging ways possible.
My Project
I have found several sight words reading tools that I feel will help motivate my students to master reading skills in an exciting way. These reading fluency activities will enhance our differentiated work time by maintaining the students' interest while working on essential skills. Sight-words flash cards, poem book with strategies for building fluency, and big box of sentence building game are packed with exciting activities that will help students develop important reading fluency skills! Students increase sight-word recognition with fun, fast-paced drills which they can complete again and again! Your help will make it possible for my students to improve their literacy skills while participating in fun activities.
These resources will encourage students to read and use strategies to foster reading mastery.
If this project is funded, it will allow my students a variety of ways to practice reading skills as well as to apply literacy skills in authentic ways. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
