I am a first grade teacher and my students are having trouble learning their Kindergarten and first grade sight word lists. Most of them can learn about two or three words a week if they focus on those words. I have found boxed sets of books called Sight Word Readers. Each book focuses on two sight words. It is very important when students are learning new words that they see them in context, in sentences, as well. These boxed sets also contain 5 copies of each book, which would allow me to use small reading groups or even to send them home as a traveling book. Students can not become better readers without knowing sight words. They need both phonics and sight words. My students seem to be doing well with the phonics, but are having trouble with sight words. Thank you for your help and support.
