This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am in a rural school in Alabama. Most of the students receive free or reduced lunch. Our school is a Title I school due to the high poverty in the area. Many of my students have never traveled out of their county.
Sight word readers and book display stands will allow the children to use their imagination to read and focus on the sight words while reading.
This will also allow them to brainstorm. The learning is more concrete when they can see what they have written or created.
My Project
Students can learn on their own. What a better way to focus on sight words than with skill building stories? These easy to follow books are filled with predictable sentence patterns that help children master common sight words. The illustrations closely support the text.
Each book is entirely made up of sight words and simple pictures.
The sight words are simple words. The sight word readers will give students all the focused reinforcement they need to master high frequency words. My early readers will be introduced to nonfiction text. With the sight word readers, they will be introduced with high interest readers.
