Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is a self contained special education classroom. Being a first year teacher, I have very little materials and supplies in my classroom, I have had to buy many materials out of my pocket.
Most of the students in my classroom are from low socio-economic homes and although my students' parents are loving and supportive they are unable to afford to help with classroom materials and supplies.
More than 3/4 of my students are English language learners as well, so being able to use hands on sight word manipulatives will really benefit these kids!
My Project
I would love for my students to have the opportunity to have hands on experiences when learning their sight words! The activities in this project will enable them to learn their sight words in a fun way.
All of my 1st-3rd grade students are reading at a kindergarten or below reading level.
Flashcards and worksheets are not the best way for my kids to learn and retain sight words, letter tiles and fun games will keep my students engaged and actively learning. Sight word knowledge and fluency are the keys to becoming a successful reader!
