Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is one of 5 other elementary schools in a small city in Northern California. Our school has a high population of Hispanic families as well as a number of working-class families. Our school is situated near the downtown area and is a couple of blocks from the high school.

Students in my class love to read!

They are constantly reading through their books and are excited to go find a new one at the library. My students also enjoy getting outside and exploring! Most of them get to go out with their families and see new places, but I do have quite a few who do not travel outside the city.

My Project

These light filters will be extremely helpful in reducing students anxiety and strain on their eyes. There have been many tests that show how fluorescent lighting can cause anxiety, poor eyesight and other behavioral problems in children. My students often complain of headaches and I believe it is because of the lighting in our classroom. I already only keep half of my lights on, and most sunny days I have them completely off.

With the light filters, I will be able to accommodate students who need to have the lights on, as well as students who suffer from their effects.

As a student who suffered throughout school with headaches, I feel these filters will help not only my students but me as well.

I'm hoping these filters will last many years and I will be grateful for them as long as they last!
