This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are amazing in every way. The problem is they sometimes don't realize how amazing they are. That's where I come in. I try to encourage and motivate on a daily basis. Our community has been on a downward spiral for some years now and it has taken a lot to turn it around. I feel change taking place. I'm hopeful we can be back on top. At least not at the bottom. To describe my students, they are over-comers! They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many of them receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical.”
"We have not, because we ask not." Well, I'm asking on behalf of my students.
A typical day in my class goes as follows: Students come in and start their bellringer; I take roll and handle all paperwork. We do what's called "Tell me something good," where I pick random students to share one good thing.
My Project
We will use the side walk chalk during recess and art time. My students love to draw pictures on the sidewalk to express their creativity. We will use the colored paper during math class. The students love to present problems and their solutions on colorful paper. We display some good examples around the room. We also will use the paper for our graphs and charts we create.
My students love writing with gel pens because of all the pretty vibrant colors to choose between.
