This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are special education students with "academic and behavior" issues. They come to class each day without a pencil or paper. They have never used a hammer or screwdriver to build anything. One of my students asked me, "How do you unscrew a screw?" Everyone knows you reverse direction and the screw will come out. Not my kids, because no one ever showed them.
My students excel when using their hands and minds to accomplish a task.
Example: Building Furniture. Putting a chair together, building a desk or cabinet. (They must read, must follow directions, must use math skills, and will learn from making mistakes) No one can build without making mistakes and learning from their mistakes. (Mr. Sims)
This project will be huge and can expand to the entire school because all kids enjoy hands-on activities and need to accomplish a project. (When a student says "I built that" or "We built that" they feel pride and accomplishment).
Learning Real World Life Skills...
My Project
Sitting in front of a computer teaching all day can become a challenge. A comfortable chair can make a big difference after a long day of teaching. The paper shredder keeps student information safe and sensitive information does not end up in a trash can where others may view it. Also sheading papers can be used in our gardening right outside our classroom window. Our classroom has also been tasked with recycling for the school so we are trying to set a good example. Thank you so much for your support.
