This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
If words could describe my class this year, I would choose awesome, leaders, kind, considerate, and most of all caring. All year long, it has been my mission for my students to use their voice to take control of their learning. Little by little, they have come to trust themselves enough to know that it's okay to make mistakes. I teach at a Title I school in Georgia. About 70% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Most of my students come from a single family household.
My Project
My students will have opportunities to earn reward money for exhibiting our 7 Habits, completing work, and showing leadership behavior inside and outside of the classroom. Our school focus is Leader in Me, students are taught to use our 7 Habits daily. The 7 Habits are: Habit 1: Be Proactive, Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind, Habit 3: Put First Things First, Habit 4: Think Win/Win, Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood, Habit 6: Synergize, and Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw.
At the end of each week, they will be able to "purchase" snacks and prizes.
Additionally, the microphone will add another fun aspect to our classroom economy by announcing students times to shop.
Having a classroom economy will teach my students about saving, spending, and other important financial literacy subjects. With your help, my students will learn a very important life skill.
