I teach art to approximately 150 middle school students ranging from 6th to 8th grade and our elementary art and music teacher, Mrs. Reynolds, teaches approximately 225 students from Kindergarten to 5th grade.
Help us give our students the chance to show off their artistic accomplishments in our School Art Show this year and for many years to come.
Many, if not most, of our students, are from families with limited income and/or "family" time. There are also a lot of foster children who pass through our community. The children are compassionate to each other's personal experiences. They are truly amazing people. Teaching art to young people is such a unique and pleasing experience. Seeing their expressions when they see their skills improving and the smiles on their faces when it is time for art is priceless.
My Project
For both of us, this is our first year as art teachers, and we are so excited about having an Art Show this year. Though our shows will be separate (one for elementary and one for middle school), we will both benefit greatly from having display boards. Currently, our choices are to either tape artwork to the bleachers in the gymnasium or to the walls. We aim to create a more professional looking appearance to our art shows and could really use your help to make this possible.
It is important that we teach students the importance of showing their art to others.
Art is a form of communication, but without an audience, it becomes a one-sided conversation. The problem is, in our school, we have to improvise where and how art can be displayed for our annual Art Show.
Everyone is so excited and working enthusiastically on their projects for the art shows. Middle school students alone have submitted over 100 pieces so far.
