I teach in a small, rural school district in western Kansas. On average, I have 22 students in my first grade classroom. My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds such as farming families, 2-parent families, single parent families, low-income, non-English speaking, and migrant. I typically have 6-8 students in my classroom who qualify for Special Education services and about 4-5 who qualify for Title I services in math or reading.
I want my classroom to feel like a loving home where all students are kind, accepted, successful, confident and not afraid to try new things.
I want my students to learn to collaborate and encourage one another. I like to engage my students in hands-on activities as much as I can. I feel that I get the best response and motivation from them when we do these types of activities. We explore with STEM activities throughout the school year as the students create their own STEM projects to solve problems.
My Project
My students are always excited to share their adventures of learning, exploring, investigating and happiness with those outside of the classroom. And what better way to do this than to document our adventures with a GoPro digital camera!
With the GoPro my students will be able to create a documentary of their classroom adventures and happenings.
My students will be able to share their experiences with people outside of the classroom and even with people across the world.
I love how the GoPro will allow outsiders to see our classroom from the perspective of my students! What better way to see how they learn, explore and grow!
