This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I'm the librarian of a Title I high school in the heart of the Mississippi Delta. Our student population consists of tenth, eleventh, and twelveth grade students. All of our student body receives free lunch. Many are reluctant readers who read more than two levels below grade level. However, despite the obstacles they face, our students are curious and motivated to learn. They just need more tools to encourage them to do so. They are incredibly creative and talented kids who are determined to make their mark in the world.
My Project
As our senior class finds their high school careers coming to a close, we would like to have a celebration for all of their accomplishments. We plan on throwing an end-of-the-year luau luncheon for our seniors. I'm requesting fun items such as leis, grass skirts, and garlands to create a memorable atmosphere as we honor their achievements. These materials would add a lot to our celebration and I know that our students would appreciate the extra effort. Our budget does not allow for these extras and we would be grateful for any extra assistance. We want to send our seniors out with a fun, amazing experience. Thank you in advance for your consideration!
