"Teamwork begins by building trust. And the only way to do that is to overcome our need for invulnerability." – Patrick Lencioni. It is important to foster the growth of middle school students and teach them to become empowered in their learning. Students at this age want to be treated as individuals and mature learners. What better way to do that then to make them feel as though they are valued as an individual by showing who they are through their own art.
My students consist of 46 sixth graders, 7 ENL students and 8 students with special education services.
They are a group of middle school students in an elementary school setting. With such a diverse group, excited to work with one another, I want to give them the opportunity to build a community together by getting to know one another better. I want them to think about who they are and how they can look at themselves and their potential in learning.
My Project
Pictures say a thousand words! We will use these frames to add pictures of each student in the room. Each student will add an adjective to describe him/her and a quote they feel exemplifies him/her as a person. With these frames the students will showcase how they see themselves. They will allow other students to understand who they are and find an quote important to them to showcase how they feel about themselves.
These photos will decorate the classroom and make the environment inviting and welcoming.
It is a great way for students to explore their individuality and let people know their worth. These frames will help to make the classroom feel like home!
