Our school itself is the oldest publicly funded elementary school in the country (378 years and counting!), providing access and support to the myriad of learners that call this school home.
My school is incredibly unique since it is nestled in a cultural intersection.
We have students from mostly African-American backgrounds, but there is a strong contingent of Vietnamese, Caucasian, and Hispanic students as well. My students vary from fluent in English to multilingual and have a range of socioeconomic backgrounds, but each one still has that vigor to learn something new.
My Project
We should always look to promote solid student thinking, no matter the subject. We have plenty of visuals around the school that mainly push the mathematical and literary thinking going on within the classrooms. I want to extend that thinking for students towards Science.
Despite requesting a plethora of items, they will collectively help my students embrace that achievement in Science is just as valuable as their core subjects.
The bulletin board outside of my classroom helps do just that, but it needs more pizzaz. I need to make students yearn to be on the board!
The border paper, stars, colored paper, and card stock paper will help showcase the thoughtful, and talented scientists I teach. The stapler will allow me--once a Science Unit is over--to easily staple packets of worksheets together so students can take them home.
As far as classroom maintenance, the pencil sharpener will replace the one that is broken The whiteboard cleaners will ensure that shadow-like film from lessons past gets completely erased, and the paper cutter will make it much more convenient in getting packets ready for students.
