My students need poster boards, copy paper for drafts, construction paper for posters, color paper for foldables, scissors for cutouts, and pencil boxes for poster project supplies.
My students are our future scientists! They energetically enter the class, smiling, giving out fist bumps, and they are full of curiosity. They are unstoppable at solving problems, and designing innovative solutions.
They are creative, courageous, and enthusiastic problem solvers.
We need to give them the tools they need today, to strengthen their skills for tomorrow. They love conquering challenges. We need these kinds of innovators in our communities. There isn't a day that goes by where they don't demonstrate that they will make a difference in our world!
My Project
My students' and their families are being heavily impacted by Kilauea volcano which changes their safety and circumstances on a day by day basis in our community. They have come to class with masks and goggles on. The air is dangerous to breathe, it can impact drinking water, and make worse any breathing conditions many of our students already have.
When the biggest earthquake hit we were on the 2nd floor and the entire building, lights, and everything was swinging, things crashed to the floor, and the students did exactly what they were supposed to do, they took cover under the lab benches, the safest place.
All of the students were unnerved by this quake. Some students cannot come into the building anymore because of the trauma this event had on them.
Many government agencies have helped, yet it has been the community helping each other that has had the greatest impact and support.
My project is to help my students be able to compete as scientists do. They have the inquiry skills and ideas. What they need is to create drafts using larger copy paper, and finished presentable posters on real poster boards. Color construction paper allows them to add foldable elements, and pencil cases will provide team tables with their supplies like scissors organized and ready to use.
Giving them a hand up to reach for the stars is something that will build them up as our future community leaders. Even though they are going through challenging experiences, they will always remember that you cared enough when they were struggling, to help them get started towards a brighter future.
