My students lack school supplies but are happy to borrow classroom supplies. They are starting to get frustrated as of late because supplies are running low, running out of ink, and getting very worn.
Students love to show what they know on white boards their handwriting, cursive skills as well as working out math problems, spelling the spelling words, or just using them to help remember how to spell a word so they can take it from one side of the paper and write it on the other side.
My Project
We are requesting individual white boards for each of our students in third grade. As you may know, third grade students are tested extensively between diagnostics, quarterly assessments, and AIR Testing for the Third Grade Reading Guarantee.
Whiteboards are an interactive way to practice math problems and processes, review reading and math vocabulary, and to practice spelling words just to name a few.
The whiteboards are a fun way to get students actively involved in a "show what you know" experience and provide a quick informative assessment to determine whether students understand the topic at hand. We are requesting new individual whiteboards for each of our students. The current whiteboards we are using are chipped and stained. The individual erasers are falling apart and lead to more scratches on our current whiteboards.
We teach in a very low income district. More than half of our students meed the guidelines for low income. Many of our students come to school without any supplies (pencils, crayons, scissors, etc). For this reason, we do not add whiteboards to our supply lists for families to purchase.
We would love to have new whiteboards for each of our students.
