My students need dry erase boards and erasers for our interactive practice on various skills across all content areas, plus clipboards for working on assignments and projects around the room.
I teach third grade in a suburb of Houston, Texas where many homes were affected by Hurricane Harvey. Our school was thankfully spared, but many of my students experienced what evacuating their home was like.
I am fortunate to inspire third graders to pursue futures beyond what they can imagine each day.
Our school is very culturally diverse, bringing many different backgrounds, traditions, languages and cultures to share with one another.
Since our school is so diverse, it is my goal to help provide unique and memorable learning experiences everyday. After teaching for fifteen years, I have learned from other educators and enjoy bringing innovative programs and ideas to my classroom and school.
My Project
Everyday in my classroom, I am assessing my students in a variety of ways. Many days their "Ticket Out The Door" is to "Show What You Know" by working or answering a question/problem. Before they can leave, they have to show me their responses. Having white boards for each child would allow them to respond to the exit ticket, show me and then, they would be able to erase their response and leave my classroom. I have also transitioned my classroom into a flexible seating room, so students are working all around the room in various types of seating. If each child had a clipboard of their own, they would be able to move around the room and easily complete assignments or projects with a hard surface.
Having clipboards for around the room use and whiteboards for students to use as an response system will provide a variety of ways to improve learning in my classroom.
Each student will have their own clipboard and whiteboard for the school year. The white boards will reduce the paper/pencil tasks for practice and quick checks. The clipboards will allow students to work around the classroom without sitting at a traditional desk and chair model.
