Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our elementary school is a very dynamic and diverse group of students who are excited to learn every day. We challenge our students every morning to do their very best. As a school community, academic success is the ladder for our students to climb towards their unlimited potential.
Our elementary school is a Title I school with many students who are very low in socioeconomic status including over 90% receiving free or reduced-price lunch at school.
Although in an impoverished area of the city, our school aims to be a very tight-knit community providing a safe and secure learning environment for our students to thrive in. Many of our students speak languages other than English at home so our staff strives to provide adequate opportunities for English language development. The teachers and students of our school are dedicated towards common goals of high academic achievement, personal responsibility, and becoming positive role models for our peers.
My Project
My students are in need of 12 LCD digital writing tablets to help replace their dry erase boards, whiteboard marker, and eraser. This set of twelve will help complete my goal for each and every student to have their own writing tablet in the classroom. We use this toolset to regularly demonstrate our learning by writing out vocabulary words in language arts, solving mathematical problems, and sketch scientific concepts but often times the erasers are lost, whiteboard markers dry up, and the dry erase boards degrade over time. A teacher spends a good percentage of their supply budgets on these consumables which could be spent on other supplies. The digital LCD tablet can be written on to demonstrate their knowledge in a bright colorful format and then with a click of a button, wipe the screen clean in less than a second.
The benefits of a digital writing screen can allow the student to use the same board for the equivalent of over 100,000 pages.
Students will be able to use the included stylus as a writing implement which is more conducive to their other tools including pencil and pen. Especially in younger grades, having learning tools that are developmentally appropriate allow for students to develop the fine motor skills needed to be successful in school.
Having an erasable tablet is an essential tool for students in learning mathematics including solving problems and equations, developing conceptual understanding, and modeling the abstract. Students love to have an easy convenient space in order to work through a problem in a reliable way that can be easily erased in a push of a button. Please consider donating to our project today.
