The students at my school are bright, enthusiastic and inquisitive. They love to learn and are eager to embrace new ideas that enhance their learning. While they view using Legos as play, I know that they are learning valuable skills as they work together to create.
My students love to discover new things and love the opportunity to work with their friends as they make these discoveries.
The ability to collaborate is a skill that they need to develop in order to do well in school and to one day take a place in our rapidly evolving global economy.
It is vital that they learn these skills now, in elementary school, and I am grateful that in my role as media coordinator, I have the chance to help foster collaborative work habits and provide opportunities for them to communicate as they create projects together.
My Project
I am asking for building bricks, stackable baseplates, a LEGO education wheels set and a HUE animation set. My students will be able to use this assortment of LEGOS in a variety of ways.
My students will be able to create alternative endings to the fairy tales that we read, to develop items to solve engineering scenarios and problems that we study, and to design responses to myths that we study, such as creating a Minotaur-proof labyrinth!
Once they have worked as a team to complete the design and building process with the blocks, they will be able to use the stop motion kit to bring their creations to life, allowing them to practice the 4 C's of creativity, communication, collaboration and critical thinking.
