My school is located in Henderson, Nevada, which is in a large urban district. We often get overlooked when it comes to extra funding from the school district or state, and we do not receive any Title I money. We have a supportive community and administrative team; however, we still lack the resources necessary for our students to reach their fullest potential
If you take a peek inside my classroom, you will see a group of hard-working, fun-loving explorers, scientists, and engineers.
My students are an active group of 3rd graders who love to learn using technology and hands-on activities. I want to provide the best educational experience I can as their teacher. These kids deserve a fighting chance to succeed as 21st-century learners.
My Project
Financial literacy is an important topic that children need to learn about at the youngest age possible. It is a life-long skill they may not be taught at home. As an educator, I must find ways to integrate financial literacy into our lessons in an enjoyable and meaningful way.
Students will play fun yet educational games like The Game of Life, as well as read books on many different financial literacy topics.
The games will be used as a hands-on way for students to manage money. The books I have chosen are interesting, engaging, and informative ways to teach about spending, saving, budgeting, goods and services, entrepreneurship, wants vs needs, etc. Some titles will be used as read-alouds to go with lessons, while others will be available for the reading pleasure of my third graders. They will be a great addition to our reading block, tying it together with math and economics.
