This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is located in the east end of Richmond, Virginia in historic Church Hill. We are a Title I school, which means many of my students live below the poverty line. The students in my class all receive free breakfast, lunch, and a "super snack" at the end of the day, as well as the option to bring home a backpack of food for the weekend.
For many of my students, school is their sanctuary.
It is my hope that I can provide a safe, consistent, and fun learning environment for my students to achieve at the highest level. Third grade is full of changes that can be exciting to some, but scary to others. By building a strong classroom community, I know my third graders will achieve great things!
My Project
Our cheerleading squad needs t-shirts to show our school spirit to the community and our fellow students. These shirts will encourage a team mindset and increase our girls' confidence as leaders of our school. Our purple t-shirts are sure to make a statement in the hallways of our historic school.
For some, this is the first time our girls have been part of a team and these uniforms are paramount to making them feel like part of an inclusive group.
As we prepare for SOL testing, our cheerleaders play an important role in making and keeping a positive atmosphere within our school by hosting pep rallies each morning. Three cheers for our cheerleaders!
