Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are K.I.D.S. They are knowledgeable, inquisitive, determined and successful. The school they attend serves a low income area. For many students the school sometimes is the most consistent part of their day. Unfortunately, in the last five years that hasn’t been very consistent. New teachers make up between 61-76 percent of the staff each year. This is changing now but the students have accelerated at having positive attitudes towards the school. There is a great pride in my students. We have a 95% attendance rate and very low mobility. My school is located in a rural area.
We are the hidden gems of the school district.
The students in my class are thirsty for knowledge. They come to school ready to learn. Eighty percent of the students in the class began our adventure into second grade far below grade level. This hasn’t stopped them from wanting to learn. In fact, it has fueled them. They have big goals, ideas, and hearts.
My Project
We are requesting basic classroom materials. We need pencils and dry erase pen in our classroom. We will use these to express our ideas, create stories, show our knowledge, and solve problems on paper and dry erase boards.
We need away to show what we know.
Pencils are used everyday. We love writing! We love sketching our ideas! Pencils are one way we do this.
We also like to give quick feedback to the teacher on our dry erase boards. We solve math problems and explore phonics with dry erase markers everyday. We also use dry erase markers in our workstation. Using dry erase pens lets us reuse the workstation over and over.
When we read at the teacher table, we have dry erase boards. We write words we are having trouble reading or don't know the meaning of. Retractable dry erase pens will keep us from loosing our lids so our pens won't dry out.
