Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a fifth-grade teacher at a local Albuquerque Charter Elementary School. I have twenty-one students enrolled in my classroom, all of which I adore for their unique backgrounds, cultures, skills/talents, likes/dislikes and personalities. What makes our school and my classroom so unique is the fact that the parents are extremely involved. They are very appreciative of what I do and what their students have accomplished this year. My students and the other students come from many different families, including many different incomes.
Our school provides free breakfast to every student every single day of our school week.
Incredible right? We also provide free or reduced-price lunches to students who qualify. Forty percent of my classroom qualifies for free or reduced-price lunch. This gives you an idea of what our budget consists of and what type of funds I have as a teacher. My biggest goal in being an educator, their educator, is providing the best learning environment possible for all twenty-one of my different learners. I have ELL, Gifted, IEP students and everything in between.
My Project
Everyday, my students show their daily work on dry erase white boards. These have been used and abused to their limits. I have noticed that the dry erase markers are not fully erasing, the boards themselves are cracking, and we go through a lot of tissue in order to erase our marks.
Boogie boards will help improve the way we communicate and solve math problems without the hassle of erasing and wasting.
The boogie boards are a serious upgrade and the best part is that the work can be erased with a push of a button! Even better news, these boogie boards do not have to be charged or plugged up so they are completely safe and wire free.
I can definitely see my students getting motivated and excited about showing me their work by using boogie boards daily!
