My Students
My school is located in Woodside, Queens and is home to over 1500 students. It is a barrier free, Title I school where over 70 languages are spoken daily. Our children come from a number of countries including China, El Salvador, Chile, and Bangladesh.
My students are sponges who arrive each day ready to soak in all the knowledge that will be imparted on them.
They are culturally diverse and always eager to learn each and every day. My children have a variety of learning needs. 40% of the students have Individual Educational Plans and receive other services such as speech, OT and PT.
My Project
As we are finally returning to in person instruction, after a long absence due to the pandemic, it is even more important now that lesson plans become more creative and imaginative. Financial literacy is a critical concept that children need to be exposed to in order for children to be successful in the future. My children need to understand the meaning of financial literacy and how it will impact their life in the future. They need to understand such concepts as money, economy, savings, income, budgeting, and wants and needs.
The resources from Teachers Pay Teachers that will be purchased will include such things as a unit on money, practice making change, and project based learning projects that can be done at home or at school that involve these key concepts.
