My students need a laptop computer. We were lucky enough to acquire a projector and USB drives from Donorschoose.org. However, we now need a laptop to enable us to use the projector on a more consistent basis. As of this point we have to borrow a laptop. It is always unpredictable as to when we can have access to it. If we can get a laptop, we will no longer have to worry about this. This would enable us to use the equipment daily in our research on colleges and how to pay for our higher education.
They're starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel! My class helps prepare students for the college application process and helps to enlighten them in terms of what college options are available to them academically and financially. These students are upper juniors and/or lower seniors getting ready to graduate within the next year. Their own resources are limited since most have parents who are immigrants and/or are from very low incomes.
My students are eager to learn about their options. However, their experience and knowledge is so limited about college and career choices that they don't even know the right questions to ask. With a laptop which will be used with our new projector, I can search the Internet or use saved information to share with the entire class at one time, since we don't have computers in the classroom. Students can also use the laptop to share the information I have asked them to gather on their own, with the rest of the class. Much more information and materials can be shared this way. The students will be able to save their projects on the laptop and will act as mentors to younger students.
We need a laptop that we can attach to our beautiful new projector and with which we can use our flash drives. Knowing that we can have access to these resources everyday will inspire us to to that much more research.
Your help will ensure that my students will be able to research colleges and careers, understand what the requirements for those colleges are, how much money those colleges cost and where they can find money to pay for those colleges. They will be better prepared to apply to college, have a greater chance being admitted to them and then be successful in college and become productive citizens in the future.
