Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have two incredible groups I work with. I teach reading to two 3rd grade classrooms. Both groups are very curious, outgoing, and kind. During class, they are very focused and good listeners. They love participating in morning meeting and discussing book we read with their peers.
Both groups are a wonderful set of students that I feel lucky to teach, and that I learn from as well.
They have set goals that together with your help they will achieve and continue to strive for greatness.
My Project
These materials I am asking for my students will make a great impact to our reading workshop. My students love reading. They love participating in our reading stations. The one thing that is missing from their participation in these stations and in class discussion is confidence.
This project will ultimately boost their confidence in speaking and at the same time build on their everyday reading skills.
My students are at different reading levels, which makes some more confident in speaking about what they have read than others. They need practice. With the recorders at the stations, all students will feel obligated to share and try to use academic language and text evidence if they know they are being recorded. The wireless microphone along with the lights will help during whole group class discussion by making students feel like stars for sharing their connections out loud. The read to self phones will help students improve their fluency as they hear themselves read out loud. This would definitely push my students to take that leap and feel proud that they did.
