Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am so lucky to work with a wonderfully diverse community of learners who are committed to finding ways to follow their dreams. We have many students who are English language learners, many who come from low income families and many who come from different neighborhoods to access the specialized programs we offer at Monroe
I work with exceptional students because who they are is beyond your typical expectations.
They are unique. I run the moderate to severe special education classroom, serving students with intellectual disabilities, orthopedic impairments, other health impairments and autism.
My Project
The magnetic letters I am requesting allow students to develop their phonemic awareness and to work on spelling skills. Many of my students have fine motor needs, which makes handwriting difficult. They are able to showcase what they know when given the tools they need - in this case manipulable letters to make their spelling words in new and creative ways.
Hands on learning is the most effective type of learning there is.
When our students are able to hold the letters and shape them into words they are getting sensory input and engaging in more holistic learning.
The heavy duty bins we are requesting are for colorful and organized storage. We need to make sure the materials are accessible when we need them and easy to find.
