We go to school in a rural area, and my class consists of a diverse population including Native Americans from our nearby reservation, as well as a large Hispanic population that aides in our farming community.
All of my students qualify for free breakfast and lunch.
Regardless of these factors, I am fortunate to work with students that love to be at school and learn each day. Our school is full of energy and excitement, which I love being a part of!
My Project
I love the quote by Dr. Seuss, "You're off to great places, today is your day, your mountain is waiting so...get on your way." I try to instill in my students that learning new things can be hard! It can even make your head hurt! But it will be all worth it!
I use fake money as a reward system.
Three times a year, I provide a class store where my students get to spend their hard earned "money". This store makes them want to work even harder and learn new things.
For our store some of my students mentioned that they would love items such as sports balls, a marble run, noise putty (a favorite) and slime. They also mentioned bracelets, nail polish, and a jewelry box. All of these fun items will be incentives to do their best! It is always fun to see the enjoyment in their eyes when they get to purchase an item that they have saved and worked hard to earn. These are great life lessons!
