Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students are learning sponges!
They are eager to "absorb" any information that I present to them. They are constantly asking why questions, and, as their teacher, I believe in motivating their higher-order thinking by answering their questions and motivating them to continue to be curious learners within their surroundings. If you were to walk the hallway at my school site, you'd see that every teacher strives to make their lessons engaging, enjoyable, inspiring, and interactive.
My Project
Did you know that researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison report that by the age of three, many children are able to grasp economic ideas such as value and exchange? By the age of seven, a child’s view of finances and spending are already in place.
When you teach children about money by incorporating it into play times, you provide opportunities for them to practice counting, to use money vocabulary and to work with the terms, more than and fewer than.
Learning about money also helps students understand other mathematical concepts such as fractions and decimals in later grades.
My students are always exploring the world around them, including through play in our classroom. The items I am requesting will enable them to be exposed to the concept of money in a grade-level format that is appropriate for them. For example, the Melissa & Doug Freestanding Wooden Fresh Mart Grocery Store will allow my students to browse the shelves and pay for purchases on one side and a grocer to ring up items on the other. Additionally, the Melissa & Doug Wooden Snacks and Sweets Food will allow my students to play vendor or customer as they learn about managing their funds in a creative and engaging format! The dramatic/imaginative corner of our classroom is ready for a financial transformation! Will you help my students shop 'til they drop!
