My students need 72 ROCKETS and a launch pad to propel their learning into the stratosphere!
This project expired on February 18, 2013.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My students are clamoring for a chance to learn and have fun at the same time. Your donation can help to accomplish this lofty goal.
This year I have an excellent bunch of eager, mature, intelligent and inquisitive Physics students.
They attend a large, urban school with approximately 3,000 students. As a veteran teacher who cares about these students, I'm appalled at the lack of interesting, hands-on activities. My students are smart and creative; they deserve to do a stimulating, educational activity.
I am requesting 72 rockets for approximately 120 students. I have done this activity in the past and it is a blast! These students will work on the construction of the rockets for approximately 8 class periods (spread over several weeks), during laboratory time. Simultaneously, in the classroom we will learn the academic principles behind the rockets: velocity, acceleration, weight, distance, engines, and electricity (to name a few!).
We will work out all the math beforehand. Our discussions, as opposed to abstract ideas in a textbook, will focus on our upcoming launch. The students will be super-excited about this project.
In my 13 years of teaching, I can point to the single, best activity that my students did - and it was learning about and launching rockets.
Please be a part of this exciting project. This activity, as it was in the past, is an unforgettable experience. The students will learn and have fun at the same time. Please help us. Without your donation this project will not happen. You will be rewarded when you see the excitement and smiles on my students' faces. Thank you in advance!
