My students attend a continuation school in a high-crime area. Most of them are from low-income households. Many of them have lots of drama in their lives and their lack of motivation in the past has contributed to poor academic success.
Interesting activities often spark a renewed interest in education that puts them on the right path for a successful life.
They really appreciate being able to do special activities, that usually, only the comprehensive school sites that they came from, are able to fund.
My Project
Our school has not had a sports team since I have been here. We are too small and have no budget to compete in football, baseball, soccer or basketball. An archery team is attainable. Our last project got us started and the students love it. We need an official NASP curtain to be eligible for tournaments. We have a few archers that are too tall for our bows so a long bow will serve them well. Forearm guards will keep everyone comfortable. A couple more targets will allow us to spread out and give everyone more shooting opportunities. The equipment should last a long time allowing students here to develop a tradition for years to come.
Please help us improve our archery program to foster self-discipline in our students and pride in our school and community.
Students will learn the value of encouraging each other to strive to work hard to be consistent and efficient in developing their skills. These qualities will help them to become productive citizens now and after their high school years.
We are off to a great start. We just need some additional equipment to allow us to compete and enjoy outdoor recreation and the benefits of working together as a team.
