Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located on the southwest side of Chicago and we serve students from mostly low income households. My school also services Deaf education, early childhood and special education programs that are blended in with our general education population.

My students are special because they all come from different walks of life and they share that through their art and we all learn from it.

Having such a diverse group of learners can be challenging but in the art room students are able to express themselves in a safe environment and even playing field.

My Project

Our art curriculum has set the bar high and we are requiring students to research and explore our subject areas before diving in.

Scholastic Art offers well written, relevant articles that will help students make real world connections to the areas we study in art.

These articles are current unlike the text books we find in our classrooms from the 80's. We do not have technology available to our art class to allow students to look up current material. Also a black and white image that I could print off doesn't to the art work the justice it deserves. We will use our subscription until we can no longer and even then we will use it to collages.
