This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from a low-income area, with more than half qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch.
This environment can produce certain obstacles to education, such as an inability to meet a child's basic needs, working parents who may lack the time or resources to provide academic support, and a whole slew of other difficulties.
While these challenges exist, they do not deter our students from striving towards goals and succeeding in endeavors.
Through our commitment to developing relationships, building supports, and creating a positive learning environment, I continue to see the gap lessen. My school does everything it can to support the needs of our children both academically and socially. Our children continue to show scholarship, purpose, and grit and need a classroom that will continue to foster their growth.
My Project
Fifth grade is a pivotal year in a student's education. This is the transition year from elementary to middle school. The materials selected will make a huge impact on the 2020-2021 school year and beyond! Students will be welcomed to their new learning environment with bright visuals using the bulletin board paper, border, bulletin board sets, and other class décor.
Fifth graders will walk into our room feeling loved, cared for, and prepared for their last elementary adventure!
After numerous discussions with this year's fifth-graders, the students decided that the more colorful aspect of a new classroom would allow them to have a more engaging learning environment. I want to provide next year's fifth-graders with a warm and welcoming classroom that nurtures their bright future as well as provides them with the visual representation before they transition from elementary to middle.
